Email the ALP leadership to stand strong for nature laws

A strong commitment from the ALP, out of their national conference, will put nature laws in the national spotlight ahead of next year’s Federal election.

Australia is facing an extinction crisis. Our current environment laws are too weak to stop projects and developments from damaging the places and birds we love.

The Australian Labor Party has included new nature laws and institutions in the draft National Platform they will take to the federal election, but these new laws will be hotly debated at the party’s National Conference in mid-December.

Together, we can show politicians that there is strong support for these reforms in the community.

Can you write an email asking Labor Leader Bill Shorten, Deputy Leader Tanya Plibersek, and Shadow Environment Minister Tony Burke to champion new nature laws and institutions?

Personalised individual emails with unique subject lines have the most impact on politicians. Please consider writing a personal email using some of the below key points:

  • Australia is facing an extinction and deforestation crisis

  • Our current environment laws are broken, and tinkering around the edges with minor reforms won’t fix the problem

  • National leadership is urgently needed if we are to protect the places and birds we love

  • The ALP should adopt the current environment laws wording  in their National Platform at their National Conference in December

  • We need to lift the environment above politics and entrust decision-making to independent science-based institutions like the National Environment Commission

  • We need strong new laws and a national EPA to act as watchdog and enforce the law
